KUSCO was pleased to host participants of “NRF Training Program for Managers of International Collaboration in S&T.”
For 2010, there are 13 participants in total, who are from Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine, Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science & Creativity, etc. As one of the agenda, Dr. Jong-Deok, Kim, Director of KUSCO provided the lecture on “The Role of KUSCO in Expanding US-Korea S&T Cooperation.”
The policy and planning workshop from December 2 to 8 in Arlington, VA focused on presenting the dynamics of international collaboration in science and technology (ICST), the mechanisms for forming agreements at the diplomatic level, the agents that conduct collaboration, and the likely subjects, topics, and locations for collaboration. The questions that were addressed are: What are the dynamics of international collaboration in science and technology? What is the potential for Korea to participate more fully in ICST? How can Korea strategically increase its participation in international science in a way that makes most efficient use of its own resources and the benefits potentially provided by cooperating? These questions were addressed by examining ICST in a broad sense, exploring Korea’s current and potential roles in international cooperation in the future, and offering recommendations for broader participation.

Invited speakers include experts from SRI International, Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center, Johns Hopkins University School for Advanced International Studies, Georgia Institute of Technology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, U.S. Department of Energy, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Institutes of Health, Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, and National Science Foundation.
