The KIC(Korea Innovation Center)-Washington opening ceremony and the Leader Group Mentor appointment ceremony were held on May 19th at the Korea-U.S. Science Cooperation Center (KUSCO). There were more than 50 participants including government officials and universities to congratulate its opening.
To commemorate this special event, Mun-Kee Choi, Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP), Ho-Young Ahn, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the United States, Seung-jo Kim, President of Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), Dae-Im Kang, President of Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science(KRISS), Soo-yong Park, President of National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), Hikyu Lee, Managing Director of Cambridge Global Innovation Ventures, Bruce D. Sunstein, Founder/Partner of Sunstein Kann Murphy & Timbers LLP, joined Min-Keun Chung, President of National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
NRF President Chung, Minister Choi, and Ambassador Ahn gave their opening remarks and congratulatory addresses, and giving presentations on KIC operation plans were followed by the Leader Group Mentor appointment ceremony. The 11 mentors were participated in this ceremony, and each mentor was appointed by Minister Choi.
KIC Leader Group Mentors aims to assist Korean ventures to establish or to expand their businesses in the U.S. market, through various mentoring services. There are approximately 70 mentors appointed in the U.S.
There was also a seminar as a part of KIC-Washington Opening and Leader Group Mentor Appointment Ceremony event.
With the aim of strengthening international cooperation and supporting overseas adventures in the fields of science technology and ICT, Korea Innovation Center (KIC) will be designated by integrating or reorganizing functions and roles of various domestic and international institutions related to MSIP.
It will serve as a bridgehead for supporting outstanding resources (humans, technology, ventures, companies, etc.) in the fields of science technology and ICT to go abroad while strengthening research and innovation capacity.
KIC-Washington will maintain original functions and roles of KUSCO while identifying and implementing additional projects that foster globalization of the creative economy and also establish a unified and systemic support system to facilitate international cooperation and overseas adventures in the fields of science technology and ICT while KIC serves as a gateway and local base for oversea adventures.
