1st U.S.-Korea Research Security Partnership Forum Successfully Held in Washington, D.C.KUSCO hosted the 1st U.S.-Korea Research Security Partnership Forum on June 26, 2026, in Washington, D.C. Under the theme “Research Security Policies in Korea and the United States: Current Practices and Future Outlook,” the forum brought together experts from government, academia, and the research community to exchange perspectives on research security policies and practices in both countries.

The program featured presentations on the NIST Research Security Framework and Korea’s research security policies, followed by a panel discussion on challenges and opportunities for U.S.-Korea cooperation in research security.
From the Korean perspective, panelists emphasized transparency, pre-screening, and awareness-building as key elements of research security. They highlighted Korea’s efforts to strengthen institutional support, provide practical guidelines and education, and help researchers identify potential risks without unnecessarily restricting international collaboration.

From the U.S. perspective, panelists stressed the importance of balancing research security with scientific openness. They emphasized open communication, trusted institutional support, and practical risk mitigation measures that enable international research collaboration to continue safely.

The discussion underscored the importance of trust, communication, and continued dialogue in strengthening research security while preserving international scientific collaboration. Building on this inaugural event, KUSCO will continue the forum series to promote the exchange of experiences and strengthen research security cooperation between Korea and the United States.
