Dr. Anne Emig, Program Director of NSF Office of International Science and Engineering (OISE) and Dr. Clive Woods, Program Director, OISE, visited KUSCO on October 22nd.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss and enhance US-Korea cooperation in following matters;
- Plan for NRF-NSF Advanced Manufacturing (AM) Workshop 2013 (3/25-28,2013):
- The quick selection of key areas of cooperation for AM workshop was emphasized in order to meet the schedule. NSF is planning to select PI once the selection of key areas of cooperation is determined.
- Cooperation in Material World Network (MWN)
- NSF 2013 Program deadline is 11/15/2012 and Korea is included as program eligible country for next year.
- Cooperation in SAVI
- Support period for SAVI is an average of two years or above, and the scale of support will be depended on the specific nature of nations and subjects, approximately $ 1M ~ $ 5M range.
- Cooperation in GRFP
- NSF has been in cooperation with North European countries and has sent about 28 people to these countries by the year 2011, and it is now promoting cooperation with new partner countries, such as South Korea, Japan, and Singapore.
- NSF-MEST Teachers Training Program
- NSF and MEST are promoting the Teachers Training program. 8-10 teachers from Korea will visit U.S. for training purposes in January 2013.
- Cooperation in ICC
- Details of the program will be decided at the next meeting with Program Director of ICC and Dr. Eun Kyu Lee, Director, Directorate for Basic Research in Science and Engineering of National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) to explore the possibility of cooperation in ICC
- Other
- Discussion on GRC Regional Meeting held in South Korea in the coming year
- The NSF and NRF have decided to further discuss on the agenda which will be proposed at the Korea-US Joint Committee Meeting for Cooperation of Science and Technology next year.
