KUSCO supported the 22nd South Western Regional Tech & Career Conference that was successfully finished on Oct 29th 2011, at Hyatt Orange County Hotel (11999 Harbor Blvd., Garden Grove, CA 92840) There were about 150 participants including KSEA chapters (Southern CA, San Diego, Sacramento, and Silicon Valley), Executive Committees of KSEA HQ and Industrial members (KOTRA, KITECH) etc. The event was chaired by Prof. Chan Seung Park, (University of California, Riverside), Chapter president of Southern California. Mr. Lee Joung Yoo from Orange County Water District was served as program chair.
It started with opening and welcoming addresses by Prof. Chan Seung Park and Dr. David Hosin Lee (President, KSEA). Then, as invited speakers, Mr. Taeho Choi, (Consul, Korean Consulate General) talked about “KORUS FTA, another leap for Korea-U.S. relations”, Mr. Joon Kyoo Kim, (Deputy Director, KOTRA Los Angeles) talked about “Partnering with Korea, and Mr. David Koh (General Manager, KITECH USA) talked about “Invitation to Industrial Technology Cooperation Programs between USA& Korea”.
Dr. H. Michael Chung (Center for Information Strategies and Technologies (CIST), CSULB) talked about “Synthesis – integration and interdisciplinary research in science and Technology” as the last invited speaker.
After the invited speech’s, there were two keynote speakers; Ms. Joo Mee Kim, Esq, (President, KAIPBA) talked about “FTA and IP” and Dr. Peter Chung, (Professor, UC Riverside) talked about the “FTA and its Impact on Engineering & Science”.
Instead of common issues regarding FTA such as trade friction, negotiation issues, or general economic benefits although those are important issues for an economic standpoint, this event was focused discussion forum on the role and impact of FTA on scientists and engineers for their current and future activities.
Then, it follows with 5 parallel sessions with tens of speakers: Digital Art and Entertainment (DAE), Biomedical Engineering (BME), Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), Carrier Mentoring (MNT), Computer and Information Technologies (CSIT).
