Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) Washington D.C. Office visited to KUSCO on July 8th. Main purpose of visit for these two organizations was to learn about KUSCO and what its functions. Dr.Jong-Deok Kim, Director of KUSCO gave a brief explanation about KUSCO’s major programs with its roles. As a bilateral organization based in the U.S., there was many discussion on future cooperation including holding a regular meeting with other bilateral organizations in order to share ideas and to strengthen networks.
JSPS
JSPS was started as a non-profit in 1932 with an endowment granted by Emperor Showa in 1932 and converted into an independent administrative institution. JSPS has 10 different overseas offices in 2003
JSPS has various fellowship programs as well as organizing forums.
JICST(The Japan Information Center of Science and Technology ) and JRDC (The Research Development Corporation of Japan) were merged into JST Corporation in 1996 and reorganized into the JST Agency in 2003
JST Washington D.C. office was established in 2004 to strengthening cooperation as well as promoting mutual understanding between JST and our counterpart organizations, scientists and researchers in the United States
