The KASBI (Korean-American Society for Biomedical Informatics)’s second annual workshop on medical informatics was held on June 4th with 42 participants from universities, government research institutes, private research institute and industries at the KUSCO conference room.
The objective of the workshop was to bring together Korean-American Scientist across the US to share recent development and applications of informatics methods to solve biomedical problems that would be difficult or impossible to address without computation analysis and statistics.
The workshop began with a welcoming remark by KASBI President and a congratulatory remark by Mr. Lee Inil, the science counselor of the Korean Embassy. The AM session was focused on the algorithms used in genomics analysis, application tools in structure genomics, and statistical methodology to gain insights into personalized medicine.
Five post-doctoral trainees with no background in computation had also attended the workshop to learn about bioinformatics and tools of genomic analysis. Moreover, the topics of 10 oral presentations alluded that a mainly experimental science performed at laboratory bench is evolving to one in which large genomics and clinical databases and computational analysis play increasingly significant roles. The workshop ended with a dinner banquet and a special raffle event for extended family members.
