KUSCO News 2017 Annual Bioscience and Engineering Symposium (ABES)

More than 120 scientists and biomedical engineers working at NIH, University of Maryland, Georgetown University Medical School, Children’s National Hospital, George Washington University Medical School, Gachon University Medical School, and several large and small biotech industries in USA and Korea have attended the Symposium. Seven or eight graduate students from University of Maryland also attended the ABES2017 without prior registration. Other scientists working at local companies also attended the Symposium.

We had four keynote speeches on different research areas and one special session for grant writing for young scientists and engineers. In addition, fourteen young scientists also presented their research results in front of a large audience (>100 participants). We also had a special workshop session for grant writing for young scientists for them to prepare their future grant applications. The Symposium participants actively engaged in scientific discussion, exchanged scientific ideas and networked with each other for future connections and potential collaborations, which are critically important for information sharing and career success in both publication and product development. Finally, we selected two outstanding speakers (for Dr. Johng Shik Rhim’s outstanding Young Investigator Awardees), two speakers (as NIH-KSA President Awards) and others as research excellent Awardees.
