KUSCO News Visit from GISC

The week of November 15 - 19 was a busy one for the KUSCO WEST Program. We were visited both in New York (Queens) and in Washington by two program officers from the Global Internship Support Center (GISC), the division of MEST which supervised the WEST internship exchange program.

The WEST Program, designed to bring selected young Korean university students to the U.S. for a period of intensive English study followed by a professional internship, is a major programmatic innovation of KUSCO. Designated by the U.S. State Department as an exchange visitor sponsor, KUSCO currently has more than 100 interns in the U.S., with more on the way.

The visit of the GISC Program Officers was designed to allow the Korean government to meet with sponsors, visit host institutions at which the interns are working, meet with language students, and to evaluate their experiences. KUSCO staff were with the GISC officers in both Queens and Manhatten on Nov. 16-17, and in Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC on Nov. 18.
