UKC2013 (US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship 2013) was held with the theme of “Toward Harmonious World with Science, Technology and Entrepreneurship” at Sheraton Hotel in New Jersey on August 7-10, 2013.

The conference is co-organized by Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA), Korea Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST) and Korea-US Science Cooperation Center (KUSCO).

The opening ceremony started on Thursday, August 8 at 10:30 am with welcoming remarks from the UKC2013 chair, Myung Jong Lee, President of KSEA and co-chair, Sang-Dai Park, President of KOFST.

Mun-Kee Choi, Minister of  Co-organizer delivered congratulatory remarks to the UKC2013 participants emphasizing the critical role of US-Korea cooperation in the Science and Technology fields to implement and extend the “Creative Economy” of Korean government.

Congratulatory remarks from Seung Jong Lee, President of NRF/KUSCO, Sang-Kee Suh, In-Sook Park, Byung Joo Min, Sang Min Lee and Hae Jin Cho, members of National Assembly of Korea, and John Kim, Assemblyman of New Jersey State were followed to encourage all UKC2013 participants from US and Korea.

The annual KSEA Awards and KUSCO-KSEA scholarship awards ceremony were held during UKC2013 as well.

UKC has been the annual flagship conference for researchers, scientists, engineers, and technology experts in academia and industry as well as decision makers and opinion leaders in government, legislative offices, and industry for 14 years. For UKC2013, about 1,200 scientiests, engineers and entrepreneurs attended from US and Korea. The number of abstract submitted and accepted was more than 900, the record high since the 1st UKC in 1997.
